Library Service During a Public Health Emergency

East Brunswick Public Library will follow the most current public health guidance as recommended by state and local officials, which may include: enhanced hygiene practices; social distancing; health screening; cleaning and disinfecting; and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

To ensure the health and safety of library staff and volunteers, as well as the health and safety of the public, the library may choose to change or limit the following:

  • staffing requirements
  • the number of people permitted in the building
  • the amount of time patrons can spend in the building
  • activity within the library, including use of equipment
  • access to collections • access to certain areas of the building
  • use of meeting rooms and study rooms
  • size of gatherings in the building
  • acceptance of donations of books and other library materials
  • programs and services

Patrons are expected to observe all personal safety restrictions mandated by the government during a public health emergency while using library services. Restrictions may include, but are not limited to:

  • Wearing a face mass or coverings while inside the library, unless unable to for medical reasons
  • Complying with social distancing guidelines, including maintaining 6 feet of distance between themselves and other customers, and by observing directional signage and social distancing markers
  • Adhering to maximum occupancy limits in the building
  • Complying with staff directives relating to safety and social distancing
