EBPL Social Media Policy

In keeping with the mission of delivering the highest level of timely service to library users of all ages as it promotes literacy, lifelong learning, personal fulfillment, and the principles of intellectual freedom, the East Brunswick Public Library recognizes the value in social networking to connect with its library users by providing information and resources beyond the physical library. The library regards online social software information and interactions equal to other information resources at the library, acknowledging its role in sparking conversations with staff and other library users.

Individuals should have no expectation of privacy in postings on library sponsored social media sites, and by utilizing these sites, you consent to the library’s right to access, monitor and read any postings on the sites. Users must understand that social media is public, permanent, and retrievable. Your messages can be read by anyone, even those not on your friend/subscriber list.

The library is not responsible or liable for the content of postings by third parties on any library sponsored social media site, and postings do not reflect the opinions or positions of the East Brunswick Public Library, its employees, or Board of Trustees.

Comments, posts and messages are welcome on the East Brunswick Public Library social networking sites. Online interactions will be regularly monitored and reviewed for content and relevancy. The library respects the public’s right to express opinions. However, the Library reserves the right to remove any posts or comments. Reasons for removal include but are not limited to:

  • Obscene or racist content
  • Personal attacks, insults, or threatening language
  • Potentially libelous statements
  • Plagiarized or copyrighted material

  • Comments unrelated to the content of the forum
  • Hyperlinks to material that is not directly related to the discussion
  • Commercial promotions or spam
  • Organized political or religious activity
  • Photos or other images that fall into any of the above categories

The library reserves the right to ban or block users who have posted in violation of this policy. In addition, users are expected to abide by the terms and conditions set by third party social media platforms.

The East Brunswick Public Library reserves the right to edit or modify postings or comments for space and content, while retaining the intent of the original post. The library reserves the right to reproduce comments, posts and messages in other public venues.
