About This Book

It's that time of month, and you know what that means...a visit from Little Miss P! She always seems to show up at just the wrong time, generally armed with a heavy dose of fatigue and poised to deliver a barrage of beatings that leave her hosts physically and mentally exhausted. Though Little Miss P is often met with dread and resignation, the realities of a woman's period are widely misunderstood-especially by those who haven't been subjected to her gut punches on a monthly basis. Join Little Miss P-along with Mr. Libido, Mr. Virginity, and Little Miss PMS-as she visits women in a variety of circumstances, advising, harassing, comforting, and delivering more than one obligatory PERIOD PUNCH in this humorous, heartwarming collection!

Little Miss P by Ken Koyama

Little Miss P by Ken Koyama is a young adult manga that follows the story of various women and their experiences with a period. The main message of this book is that periods are widely misunderstood, so this book guides you through some insight into what a woman's period is actually like. Little Miss P, the character representing a woman’s period is shown entering a girl's life throughout the book, whether it's a young teen who just started her period, a quick visit, or an elder woman experiencing her last menstruation, each story and character is unique. During each short story, the story presents itself as a new character along with its own set of problems, which represents realistic problems a woman might face during that time of the month. All while being humorous and silly. For example, Little Miss P is shown throughout the book giving girls “Period Punches” where Little Miss P dramatically gives a punch that would result in being thrown across the room. I rate this book a 5/5 because of the way the book humorously presents itself all while addressing the serious realities of having a period. I also liked how the book showed various perspectives and options on having a period. This book also showed other real-world problems outside of having a period, like having separated parents and other related issues. I recommend this book for teens who want to learn about periods and the life of a menstruator or for teens who just want something funny and relatable to read.
