Great read!

I really loved this book (and the second book as well!). In essence, this book follows the story of seven teenagers who set out to murder one another (but they don't all follow through with it). There's tragic betrayal coupled with some romance. The characters are really complex, and I like the storytelling style, which shows the perspective of a different character in each chapter. Additionally, I think the world-building was pretty good in the sense that there wasn't really info-dumping, and you find out more information gradually. However, I do wish I could have found out more information about the world they live in because I just think it would have been interesting, even though it wouldn't really affect the plot. I also feel like some parts were a bit mundane, but overall the plot was good. It's kind of like "The Hunger Games", except everyone is a Career tribute. Also, instead of the participants being forced into the tournament by the government, the participants' families happily put their kids into this deadly competition, and the families themselves are the ones who created the tournament. I like how the characters weren't all either heroes or villains. The characters are sometimes morally ambiguous, illustrating how not everything is black and white / "evil" or "good". I like how the characters aren't perfect, but instead are shown as normal people who are flawed and make mistakes. Overall, I think this is a great book and a fun read, with unexpected twists that take the reader off-guard. Definitely recommend!
