About This Book

Part 3 of the His Fair Assassin series

In the powerful conclusion to Robin LaFever's New York Times bestselling His Fair Assassins trilogy, Annith has watched her gifted sisters at the convent come and go, carrying out their dark dealings in the name of St. Mortain, patiently awaiting her own turn to serve Death. But her worst fears are realized when she discovers she is being groomed by the abbess as a Seeress, to be forever sequestered in the rock and stone womb of the convent. Feeling sorely betrayed, Annith decides to strike out on her own. She has spent her whole life training to be an assassin. Just because the convent has changed its mind, doesn't mean she has.

Suspenseful and intriguing

The novel, "Mortal Heart" by Robin LaFevers can be found on Hoopla and is the third installment in the "His Fair Assassin" series. It is told from the perspective of Annith, a daughter of Mortain and sister of Ismae and Sybella. Annith has been dutifully serving the covent but has yet gone on a mission to serve Mortain. As she watches her fellow sisters and friends, Ismae and Sybella, go on Mortain's missions, she fears the reason why she has been left behind. After sneaking around and listening for word about her duties, she finds out that she is being groomed to be the next abbess, the woman who remains in the basement of the covent and passes on Mortain's message to the covent. Anith is horrified that her worst fear is confirmed and tries to escape her destiny by pleading with the head of the covent, but her pleas are futile. Deciding to take her destiny in her own hands, Anith runs away and finds herself on an adventure where she finds love, uncovers the truth, and fulfill her true destiny.
I would rate this novel 4 out of 5 stars (just like the other novels in this series) for it's suspenseful and intriguing plot. This novel is just as intriguing as the other two and is personally my favorite book in the series. I would recommend this novel to readers who enjoy dystopian books that include romance and adventure.
