73 Words in the 732 Short Story Competition

The library is looking for your short stories -- honestly, your shortest stories -- for the annual 73 Words in the 732 Short Story Competition.

Your short story can be about anything; the only requirement is that it must be 73 words or fewer.  This competition is open to all ages so your entire family can submit entries.  A panel of library staff selects the best short stories, which are posted on the library's website for the whole community to enjoy.

The information Sydney presents was reviewed by her advisor, and Allergist and Immunologist.  To learn more, you can visit the resources that Sydney used:

Drawing on walls: a Story of Keith Haring

Truly devoted to the idea of public art, Haring created murals wherever he went. From Matthew Burgess, the much-acclaimed author of Enormous Smallness, comes Drawing on Walls: A Story of Keith Haring. Often seen drawing in white chalk on the matte black paper of unused advertising space in the subway, Haring's iconic pop art and graffiti-like style transformed the New York City underground in the 1980s. A member of the LGBTQ community, Haring died tragically at the age of thirty-one from AIDS-related complications.

My Hair is Magic

This little girl knows her hair is great just as it is. When people ask, "Why is your hair so BIG?" she answers, "Why isn't yours?" Her hair is soft, it protects her, it's both gentle and fierce. While some might worry about how it's different and try to contain it, she gives it the freedom to be so extraordinary it almost has a life of its own.
