Kids in Kindergarten and up are welcome to join the Caldecott Countdown this season. Pick up a reading log at the Youth Services desk and keep track of the Caldecott Medal winners and honor books that you read. When you fill up your whole log, you can turn it in to us and select a prize book to keep. You will also be entered into a drawing to win your own copy of the 2022 Caldecott Medal winner.
The Caldecott Award is given annually by the American Library Association to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children. While many people think of picture books as being for preschoolers, many of them are written at a high reading level and are appropriate for elementary school-aged children. And that's not to mention that the Caldecott Award is really about the art, which can be appreciated by all ages! The winner and honor books will be announced on January 24, 2022.
