The Age of Innocence is Edith Wharton's twelfth novel.  It won the 1921 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, making it the first novel written by a woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, and thus Wharton the first woman to win the prize.The story is set in upper-class New York City in the 1870s.

When a griffin visits the town where a statue that bears his likeness graces the front of a church, the townspeople do not offer him a warm welcome but the Minor Canon, whom the townspeople convince to host the creature, develops a relationship with him.

A beautiful, golden, jewel-studded statue and a little swallow give all they have to help the poor.
