Take a Business Break: How to Start a Business

Description:  Starting a business involves many steps:

  • having an idea to make something or provide a service that people will pay for;
  • getting organized and carrying it out;
  • making sure you are adequately capitalized;
  • promoting, marketing and selling your product or service and pricing it right;
  • establishing a back office and infrastructure;
  • setting up the right tax entity and making the right initial binding tax elections;
  • developing a website and e-commerce store;
  • setting up a banking and credit card relationship;
  • and much more!

This program will help anyone starting a one-person business or consulting practice, as well as someone trying to get angel investors or raise private equity.  Included will be some insider tips the speaker has learned from over 2000 clients who started businesses, including some of the most famous business people in the world. A thorough checklist will be distributed to all attendees.

Presenter: Edward Mendlowitz, CPA, is emeritus partner at WithumSmith+Brown, PC and is one of Accounting Today’s 100 Most Influential People. Ed is the author of 29 books and has written over 1500 articles and blogs and developed and presented over 350 speeches to accountants and general audiences. He is a licensed certified public accountant and is accredited by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) in business valuation and as a personal financial specialist (PFS). He teaches courses on financial analysis and managerial accounting in the MBA program at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
