BeTWEEN the Lines: Writing Workshop (Zoom)

Jul 21 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

The Writers Circle (TWC) is pleased to present this virtual creative writing workshop for 6th-8th grade patrons of the East Brunswick Public Library. During the workshop, participants will engage in interactive creative writing exercises and prompts in a positive, supportive atmosphere. Although not all participants are guaranteed a chance to share their work during the program, everyone will write, engage, and have fun. Kids learn how to get their ideas on paper, and then how to make their stories really work. This class bridges the playful ideas of Story Magic into a more mature environment where gentle, constructive critique and group discussion introduce and refine students’ understanding of the elements and challenges of story-making. Students will build confidence and improve their writing in an open-minded, positive and often exuberant atmosphere.

This workshop will be led by Mike Allegra.

Mike Allegra is the author of the picture books Sarah Gives Thanks (Albert Whitman & Company, 2012), Everybody’s Favorite Book (Macmillan, 2018), Scampers Thinks Like a Scientist (Sourcebooks, 2019) and the forthcoming Sleepy Happy Capy Cuddles (Page Street Books, 2022). He also pens two chapter book series: Prince Not-So Charming (Macmillan, 2018-19, pen name: Roy L. Hinuss) and Kimmie Tuttle: Humble Genius (Abdo, 2021).

Mike has had his plays read and performed around the country. He won the Chameleon Theatre Circle’s New Play Festival and the Atwater Theatre’s One-Act Play Competition and was selected for the Jersey Voices One-Act Festival. He also received an Independent Artist Fellowship for playwriting from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.

This program is sponsored by the EBPL Friends of the Library.
