He was supposed to arrive. I stomp anxiously and look out past the shade of a cottonwood tree, where big birds perch silently, while in the glistening night sky a dozen more glide. Something must have gone wrong. When I am about to call, a faint sound comes. “Sorry for the late delivery!” a snow owl says and then flies away, leaving me with a bowl of ramen that has cooled off.
