A Look at Black History Through Jazz (In-person)

Guest presenter Sandford Josephson, Editor of Jersey Jazz Magazine, will take us on a tour of significant movements in the history of jazz. Josephson will take attendees on a journey through the rich and vibrant history of jazz, focusing on the important role it played in the Harlem Renaissance, as well as the experiences of expatriates and their resistance to racism. Whether you're a seasoned jazz aficionado or simply looking to learn more about the genre, this discussion is engage and captivate all in attendance.  

Sandford Josephson has written extensively about jazz musicians in publications ranging from the New York Daily News to American Way magazine and is Vice President of Publicity for NJJS. Josephson currently co-hosts the Jazz on a Sunday Afternoon concert series at the Jay and Linda Grunin Center for the Arts in Toms River, NJ. From 2011-2017, he curated the “Music in the Moonlight” jazz series at the Luna Stage in West Orange, NJ, a series that he founded.
