A presentation for all those who are hungry for overseas travel.

The Paris bistro is at its heart an unpretentious neighborhood gathering place serving traditional cuisine and having a bar counter. But the term is used for many different types of eatery-drinkeries in Paris today. In this illustrated lecture, Gary Lee Kraut examines the development and evolution of bistros in Paris over the past 150 years and what a bistro is today in the restaurantscape of the French capital. Gary will talk about various organizations, formal and informal, devoted to defending and promoting traditional bistros and cafés as essential vectors of sociability and art-de-vivre à la française. And he’ll introduce the audience to some of the owners, patrons, dishes and wines that are a part of his own Paris bistro life and that you, too, can meet and enjoy on your next trip to Paris.

Gary Lee Kraut is an award-winning specialist on travel, touring and culture in France. As a travel writer and editor, he operates the online travel magazine France Revisited, francerevisited.com. He also provides private tours and advice for curious and hungry travelers and top-flight travel agents through garysparistours.com. Born in Trenton, Gary has lived in Paris for 35 years and participates frequently in Paris bistro life. Bring all of your questions regarding your upcoming France travel plans if you'd like to speak with him personally following his presentation.
