[WALK-INS WELCOME] Diabetes Workshop & Blood Pressure Screenings

Oct 8 - 10:00am to 12:00pm

Get Pumped Up About Heart Health: Diabetes Workshop & Blood Pressure Screenings

The HEAL Team (Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School students) return to the library to share information about diabetes and hypertension, both of which impact blood pressure.

Following the program, there will be a physician conducting free blood pressure screenings, and students will be there to help calculate BMI and fat percentages

Blood Pressure Screening: A blood pressure test measures the pressure in your arteries as your heart pumps. High blood pressure greatly increases your risk of heart disease and stroke.

American Preventive Screening and Education Association (APSEA) is a volunteer-run, 501(c) (3) non-profit organization founded in 2014 whose mission is to (1) raise awareness about chronic diseases including hypertension and diabetes and (2) reduce the prevalence of uncontrolled, untreated, and undiagnosed chronic disease in the community. Our rigorously trained volunteers hold free health screenings and talks at various community locations, having held 500+ health screenings across 70+ locations in NJ over the past 8 years. APSEA is also an approved CDC Diabetes Prevention Program, has chapters at 7 NJ universities, has an active membership of over 300 students, and is continually expanding with many new emerging chapters across the country! For more information, feel free to visit www.NADIaid.org (old website) or www.apseahealth.org (rebranded website still in development but accessible).

The HEAL Team is made up of four medical students from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Our initiative’s objective is to promote long-term hypertension awareness and management. An important goal of the HEAL team is to follow up to discuss progress with lifestyle modifications, remind you about existing strategies to manage high blood pressure, and create action plans to achieve hypertension goals.
