Intro to Github: 

Github.comGitHub, Inc. is a provider of Internet hosting for software development and version control using Git. A place for hosting open source project, is a place for collaboration and engagement with fellow members of the community. You can work online or download the app to your own computer.
 
Git is a Version Control System, and the language use to operate the collaboration tools provided within Github. For more about Github watch this short clip
 
This class will introduce the basic features of Github.com, what is Github? And how to use Github? The class will demonstrate how to use simple Github commands to upload your files, and collaborate with others. The class will encourage participants to practice and try Github on their own. This class is geared to anybody who is curious about how to use popular tools for computer programming. Participation is encouraged and is done using a communication platform called Slack.

Prerequisite: be able to use the internet, have some broad knowledge of what computer programming is, comfortable uploading and downloading files from the internet to computer. Experience with command line programs is a plus, but not necessary. 

This is a 3-part class, meeting every Thursdays at 7 pm.  

Week 1: April 8 Intro to Github

Week 2: April 15 Github Collaboration (upload and download)

Week 3:  April 22  Intro to Github App and command line. 

Class will use Slack 

Class Duration: 45 min

Please plan to join the meeting 10 minutes prior to the program so your device has time to connect.

  • A Computer or laptop is required to perform the lessons. You can use a computer or mobile phone or table to watch and hear this class.
  • Zoom link will be emailed to registered participants
  • To follow along with the virtual class, we suggest having two devices or two monitors during the class. On one device you can watch the class and on the other you can use the application. Or you can use one desktop/laptop and two browser, follow this article to learn how. I will do a short demonstration on Jan 5th's class.
  • If you have a camera & microphone, you will be muted during the program. Unmute yourself to talk or use the chat box to ask questions. Questions are encouraged. 
  • Audience: Adults
  • This Session will be recorded.
