2024 NATIONAL MEDAL
for Museum and Library Service Finalist

A Message From Our Director

As we welcome summer, I wish you and your families long, restful days and cool, peaceful evenings making new memories with families and friends. There’s no better time than the summer to visit the library. Whether you choose to dive into a good book while lounging in our air-conditioned space, take part in our programs, or just seek a quiet corner to unwind, the library is a place to lift your spirits, support your physical and mental health, and even fight loneliness. The National Library of Medicine puts it beautifully: “Every time a library connects someone to a resource that improves their well-being, it’s public health in action – quiet, powerful, and community-wide.”

There’s so much happening at the library – here’s a sneak peek to spark your interest. Our beloved annual Summer International Film Festival returns with films from around the world shown every Tuesday in July at 2 pm and 7 pm.

“Color Our World” is the theme of this summer’s reading challenge at EBPL! Children and teens can read every day, attend library events, and complete special "missions" like making art or visiting a museum to earn points. Redeem your points for up to four prizes and be entered into a raffle for a chance to win a grand prize. And grown-ups, don't let kids have all the fun! Complete 5 out of 25 library-themed activities to be entered to win one of our great prizes. Stop by the Information Desk to pick up your Summer Reading Card and start playing.

Teens and Tweens can look forward to our 3rd annual Summer Smash Brothers Tournament.

Puzzle lovers will enjoy our puzzle swap and tournament on July 30, sponsored by Ravensburger and the Friends of the East Brunswick Public Library.

Other highlights include:

This summer, make your health a priority. During their Day of Service, first-year medical students from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School will teach our residents the importance of summer safety. It’s also a great opportunity for kids and teens who are interested in pursuing a career in medicine to stop by and talk with the med students about the educational paths they took to get to this point!

Our Next Chapter Book Club is designed for older teens and adults with disabilities who enjoy stories, socializing, and connecting with others. It's another way this library opens its doors and heart to be an inclusive and safe space for everyone.

Be sure to check the library website for dates and locations. Some programs require advance registration.

The library is your “summer getaway,” and the best part is that you don’t even need to pack a bag! I can always be reached at kparry@ebpl.org, or 732-390-6764.

Wishing you and all your families a wonderful summer.
