Learn the basic of Microsoft Word (Adults Audiences only)

Note: we will be using Microsoft Word Online on this class, anybody can get Microsoft Word Online for free. If you have Microsoft Word on your computer, this class will help you too.

A 5-class part serie with a different topics on each session. Classes are held on Zoom on Tuesdays in May and June at 7 pm.

For learners who are new to Microsoft Word or want to get reacquainted with Microsoft Word.

No experience with Microsoft Word is necessary.

This course will empower participants with the fundamentals to take more advance classes.

Class #1 Description

The Tech Teacher will:

Explain how to set up your workstation to follow along the lesson. 

Show participants how to sign up into the Microsoft Word Online environment. If you do not have Microsoft Word in your computer you can use Microsoft Word Online.

Introduce participants on how to use the Slack Application to make your experience more like an in-person classroom.

Teach a lesson on how to effectively navigate around the Microsoft Word environment.

No prior knowledge in programming nor advanced math skills are necessary.

This course will encourage you to try Microsoft Word online on your own during the Zoom class, you will be encourage to get hands-on training and have support while your learn.

Microsoft Word Application

If you have Microsoft Word in your computer, please make sure it is no more than 5 years old.

Don't have Microsoft Word? Do not worry, follow these steps.

  • Go to Office.com.
  • Login to your Microsoft account (or create one for free). If you already have a Windows, Skype or Xbox login, you have an active Microsoft account.
  • We will cover this process on the first class.

Slack

Join our class communication tool, Slack, to get the most of the class. On Slack you can ask your questions and feel involved in the discussions and seek additional help or feedback.

 

Device Setup

 

To follow along with the virtual class, we suggest having two devices or two monitors during the class. On one device you can watch the class and on the other you can use the application. You can use one desktop/laptop and two browser, follow this article to learn how. There will be short demonstration on Class #1.

Class #1, May 11. Navigating the Microsoft Word Interface, Creating and Saving a Document, Opening and formatting an existing document, Share documents. 

Class #2, May 18. Formatting, Spell checking, Copy and Paste, Printing,  Applying Font Effects. 

Class #3, May 25. Inserting and Formatting Pictures and Shapes, Headers and Footers, Page Numbers.  

Class #4, June 1. Creating and Formatting Tables, Columns, Collaboration.

Class#5, June 8. Theme, Headings, Table of Content.

Prerequisites

Desktop computer or laptop with Internet connection.

Basic understanding of how to navigate on the internet and use Zoom.

We will be using a free version of Microsoft Word.

Patrons are not required to purchase any Microsoft subscription for this class.

Live Meeting

Please plan to join the meeting 10 minutes prior to the program so your device has time to connect.

Zoom may ask you to download and install the application file for you to join the meeting. Download and install the file so you can connect to Zoom.

The Zoom link will be emailed to registered participants upon registration.

Please enter your email correctly on the registration form so the Zoom link is sent timely.

If you have a camera & microphone, you will be muted during the program. Unmute yourself to talk or use the chat box or Slack to ask questions. Questions are encouraged.
